Mo H. Zareei aka mHz is a sound artist, researcher, and educator. Using custom-built software and hardware, his experiments with sound cover a wide range from electronic compositions to sound-sculptures and audiovisual installations. Regardless of the medium, Zareei’s work is particularly targeted at the point where noise meets grid-based structures. He has exhibited his work at international events and festivals including the Modern Body Festival 2016 (The Hague), International Symposium on Electronic Art 2015 (Vancouver) and 2014 (Dubai), New Interfaces for Musical Expression conference 2014 (London), International Conference on Auditory Display 2014 ( New York), and Lux festival 2014, 2015 and 2017 (Wellington).

Zareei's research focuses on the intersection of sound-sculpture, glitch music, and brutalism. His work has been featured on Streaming Museum, Creative Applications, Creators Project, and Fast Company Design. His installation piece “Rasping Music” was the recipient of the 1st prize in the Sound Art category of the Sonic Arts Award 2015.

Zareei was born and raised in Iran. He holds a B.S. in Physics from Shahid University of Tehran and a B.F.A in Music Technology from California Institute of the Arts. He recently completed his Ph.D at Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand, where he currently works as a Lecturer in Sonic Arts.
